Peer to peer lending

Peer-to-peer lending, also abbreviated as P2P lending, is the practice of lending money to individuals or businesses through online services that match lenders with borrowers. Peer-to-peer lending companies often offer their services online.

Equity Crowdfunding

Real estate investing involves the purchase, ownership, management, rental and/or sale of real estate for profit. Improvement of realty property as part of a real estate investment strategy is generally considered to be a sub-specialty of real estate investing called real estate development.

Multi-Asset Management

Crowdfunding is the practice of funding a project or venture by raising small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the Internet. Crowdfunding is a form of crowdsourcing and alternative finance.

Initial Coin Offering (ICO)

An initial coin offering or initial currency offering is a type of funding using cryptocurrencies. It is often a form of crowdfunding, however a private ICOs which does not seek public investment is also possible.

Peer-to-peer computing or networking is a distributed application architecture that partitions tasks or workloads between peers. Peers are equally privileged, equipotent participants in the application. They are said to form a peer-to-peer network of nodes.

Market size and future development

With a global transaction value of about US$220.9 billion in 2018, the Alternative Lending segment is the third biggest segment within the FinTech market.

From an international perspective, comparing the three major regions U.S., China and Europe, the size of the Chinese Alternative Lending market is remarkable. With a transaction value of US$178.9 billion, China accounts for 83% of the global Alternative Lending transaction value in 2018. The major share of this transaction value is contributed by Crowdlending, which amounted to US$126.9 billion in 2018. Thedemand of China’s SMEs for loans cannot be fully covered by the traditional financial sector.

The U.S. is the second biggest region with a transaction value of US$31.5 billion in 2018. However, compared to the overall U.S. credit market, this figure is still rather low, and the Alternative Lending market accounts for only a tiny share of the overall financial sector.

Europe shows a considerably smaller transaction value of US$7.5 billion in 2018. The trust in the traditional financial sector is still high in Europe and the interest rates are quite low. This deprives Alternative Lending models of mass market adoption.

Thanks to continuous high growth rates through to 2023, the global Alternative Lending transaction value is expected to reach US$390.6 by the same year, and again that the major share of this growth is contributed by China, which will account for a global market share of 87% by 2023.
